Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assist the COO & senior management to establish organizational goals, performance objectives, guidelines and best practices that are based on Board Policy and strive towards achieving them.
  • Oversee all store/supermarket operations based on the goals, objectives, and standards of the organization.
  • Oversee, assist, and supervise all department managers in planning and performance to achieve all goals and objectives.
  • Provide a model of supportive and participatory leadership promoting the concepts of team building and empowerment.
  • Monitor overall store/supermarket conditions to meet customer service objectives and budgetary goals.
  • To Plan and implement all store operations within budget.
  • Develop and oversee store design and merchandising plan.
  • To help direct and maintain inventory, product mix, and merchandising standards sufficient to meet organizational ends and goals.
  • To design, develop, and maintain a store/supermarket that is well merchandised and customer friendly.
  • To evaluate and identify customer service needs and develop necessary training to ensure the co-op provides outstanding customer service to its members and customers and communicates clearly and effectively to the membership.
  • Monitor key indicators to ensure overall satisfaction.
  • To develop staff training plan, pay scale, position descriptions, staffing structure, orientation process, employee benefits and policy manual to ensure that organizational training needs are met.
  • To oversee hiring of all other staff and to develop and maintain a system of staff feedback designed to facilitate communication within and among departments and participate in direct one-on-one performance feedback with supervisors and staff as necessary.
  • Understand, implement required programs, manage and monitor compliance
  • with applicable federal and state health and safety laws.
  • Ensure that all staff are trained in and follow all organizational safety procedures and guidelines and ensure that the store/supermarket provides a safe work environment for all staff and customers.
  • Coordinate store/supermarket information with website, plan and manage store promotions and design and maintain a marketing campaign within budget to maximize local involvement and increase sales and membership.
  • Develop and map out new store/supermarket expansion plan and lease new profitable and strategic store/supermarket sites and negotiate the most favorable leasing terms including M&E provisions and advertising space.
  • Perform study all new sites in terms of demographics, trade area, ROI, right sizing, accessibility and traffic counts.
  • Work with Finance department to secure budget funding for new sites acquisition.
  • Manage all leasing matters including new leases, renewal, closure, relocation and extension.
  • Plan and build best value new store / supermarket in accordance to planned specifications and designs, within cost budget and on time delivery to operations.
  • Manage all refits and new store / supermarket construction process. From initial layout, drawings, tender, approval, award of tender, on-site supervision until the handover to operations.
  • Liaise and manage the project team comprised of external contractors, M&E consultants and landlord’s fit-out team.
  • Conduct business review with contractors, services providers and equipment suppliers to create a win-win and proactive partnership.
  • To maintain all Company owned stores / supermarkets and facilities in good working conditions at lowest cost and shortest turnaround time.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field; MBA in Business Administration is preferred.
  • 15+ years managerial experience with retail stores/supermarket background with at least 5 years experience in retail/supermarket management with experience in reporting directly to CEO or COO.
  • Experience in working with boards of directors providing professional, accurate, and strategic advice.
  • Experience in retail stores/supermarket retail industry processes and decision making.
  • Experience with operating, capital and cash budgeting.
  • Working knowledge of store point of sales systems and computer literacy.
  • Ability to handle multiple demands and make tough decisions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially in English.
  • Sense of urgency & commitment to cooperative values and principles.
  • Ability to organize time to the best advantage of the organization.
  • Demonstrated strong customer service skills, effectively addressing customer issues and controlling business impact.
  • High standard of integrity and reliability.
